Minority expresses disapproval of the sod-cutting ceremony for the National Affordable Housing Project

Minority

The Minority in Parliament has expressed its disapproval of the sod-cutting ceremony conducted by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the National Affordable Housing Project.

According to Sampson Ahi, a member of the Works and Housing Committee of Parliament, the project’s commencement is deemed unlawful as the government has not provided the necessary details of the agreement to Parliament for approval.

Ahi highlighted that the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) agreement for the project was supposed to be presented in Parliament for approval, but it has not been done. Therefore, the sod-cutting event without parliamentary approval is seen as a disregard for the established government structures.

The Minority is raising concerns about various aspects of the project, including the value of the land, the cost of onsite infrastructure that the government is supposed to provide as part of its equity in the project, and other related matters.

The lack of transparency and approval in Parliament has prompted these questions, and they demand answers before proceeding further with the project.
