The Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Osei Afriyie Akoto has assured farmers here in the Western region of government’s support to help mitigate their challenges.

Speaking during his working visit to the region to engage farmers and major stakeholders in the Agricultural sector, the minister acknowledged that the concerns raised by farmers will be handled by the ministry to help sustain the food security in the country.

“It’s been a good interaction. I have had the patience to listen attentively to all that has been said. Many of them are region specific, and that’s why I am here. Those of national significance are a different platform altogether otherwise I will still sit in Accra.

The essence of my visit is to come to the region, and find out exactly what’s going on in the region, and the constraints so that when we are making policies, we can find the appropriate solutions.
Agribusiness is well-rooted here,”

He further advised farmers in the region to take advantage of some of the policies put in place by the government through the regional minister, and the various agriculture directorates to maximize production.

“The regional minister has set up a seedling centre for coconut and is aiming to raise a million seedlings of coconut for distribution to farmers which I find very unique. It is an example for other regional ministers to follow in that respect. I appeal to all stakeholders who came to make maximum use of these resources,”
