T. T. U Signs Memorandum of Undertanding with DTI To Implement Precision Quality Curriculum

The Takoradi Technical University yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Design and Technology Institute to strengthen the implementation of the Precision Quality training program towards improving Technical and Vocational Education and Training delivery in Ghana.

The signing forms part of Design and Technology collaborative strategy to work with stakeholders to reach the objective under the “Transforming Youth TVET livelihood for sustainable jobs’ project in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Work strategy; which seeks to enable three (3) million young people, particularly women to access dignified and fulfilling work opportunities by 2030.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the Takoradi Technical University, Rev. Professor John Frank Eshun asserted that the collaboration can help the institution to realize its vision of becoming one of the best in terms of technical and vocational education and training to combat unemployment among young people in the country.

The collaboration, he mentioned has led to the capacity training of 35 staff of the institution in Precision Quality Curriculum as well as the refurbishing and retooling of the Sculpture Studio equipped worth about GH¢200,000.

For his part, the Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah pointed out that Ghana’s curriculum over the years has focused on creating white colored jobs at the detriment of technical and vocational education and training. He posits that TVET holds the key to unlocking the potential of the youth and creating sustainable jobs adding that the role of TVET is to expand the competitiveness of many leading economies.

Meanwhile, Mr. Darko Mensah, mentioned that Partnerships can bring about innovation and provide a safe convening platforms for ideas to germinate in addition to bringing new skills, talents and ways of doing business in close proximity to each other.

Precision Quality was developed by industry players and certified by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training for introduction into the academic studies of technical Universities. Precision Quality requires discipline, innovation, novelty, radical transformation and attention to expected outcomes.

Mr. Okyere Darko Mensah charged the two institutions to come out with a realistic plan that will create the needed skills to ensure that jobs are sustained in Ghana, thus encouraged industry players in the Western Region to collaborate with TTU and DTI to accelerate skills training and skills transfer and to ensure that provision of internships and job opportunities to graduates from TTU with the requisite skills in order to move the region forward.
