Western Region Among Top 5 Poor Performers In Road Safety, Urgent Call for Attitudinal Change – NRSA Head

The Head of the National Road Safety Authority, NRSA, in the Western Region, Victor Bilson, says the region is among the top 5 regions not doing well in ensuring road safety.

Giving the provisional statistics on the road crashes in the region, Mr. Bilson said there were about 673 between January and November, with 654 people sustaining degrees of injury, representing 97 per cent.

Per the provisional statistics, more males have lost their lives as compared to women, adding that the country loses a significant amount of revenue to road crashes.

Mr. Bilson beckoned on residents in the region to consider road safety as a responsibility

Mr. Bilson speaking on the Western Echo Show, observes that overspeeding among drivers mostly causes road crashes. He says road fatalities occur on straight, flat, and good roads.

He further called for attitudinal change among motorists, especially when driving in settlements. He states that drivers are required to be trained and re-trained per the law.
