Ghana Blind Union Calls for Support in Brialle Education.

Mr. James Osei, the Western Regional President of Ghana Blind Union has bemoaned the inadequate supply of logistics to institutions where visually impaired, disabled and other physically challenged persons receive formal education.

According to him, the physically challenge can perform better when learning materials are made available to them for effect preparation before examination.

Speaking about some of the major challenges blind people face in education in the country during the World Brialle’s Day, Mr. Samuel explained that even though government provides books for these institutions, the Braille is made available only when examinations are taken place, therefore it is important for government to prioritise materials needed by the blind to improve performance.

“There are no Braille papers for blind persons in various institutions. The government should make it available in schools so as to aid them in their education. Without the Braille, the student can’t excel as desired. Students only get to use the Brialle when they are due for Examinations.”

He charged the Ghana Education Service to consider writing books in Braille for the blind to enable them to equally get access to resource which can help in their pursuit of education.

He finally lamented on the delay in receiving government’s three (3) percent  of the district common fund which are given to the physically challenged to cushion them. The delay brings hardship on those who solely depend on it for survival and we’ll being.

World Braille Day is observed globally on January 4 each year to recognize the right of access to braille by blind people and raise awareness of the importance of braille as a means of communications in the full realization of the human rights for blind and partially sighted people,
