WE CAN COMPETE AGAINST TELENOVELAS – KALSOUME SINAARE

Ghanaian television channels have been flooded with foreign telenovelas in recent years, a situation that is harming the local movie industry. The situation is compounded by the interest of  Ghanaians in these foreign telenovelas like such as Kukum Bhagya, Do Not Love Me So Much and Veera.
In an interview with Mr.Sqny on Beach Fm’s drive time show Sunset Beach, Welfare officer of Ghana’s actor’s guild Kasoume Sinaare reiterated the negative impact of foreign telenovelas on Ghanaian television screens but stressed that the challenge was funding and not producers inability to produce quality materials for television.
“You know we are doing well. We have come a long way, from nowhere to where we are now. So I don’t think that is right”
She added that “I believe we should get corporate bodies to help us, because it is quite difficult producing a movie, as it involves gathering money, getting people together and paying them. So when we organize ourselves well, then we can kick Telenovela out of our system.”
“Telenovelas are not that expensive but producing movies here and selling to the television stations is very expensive, so I’m sure that is why we are not doing well in the system”

The mother of three has led a delegation from the Ghana Actors Guild to seek funds from government at the ministry of tourism.
