Four headteachers interdicted for unauthorized fee charges transferred by GES

Out of the eight Senior High School headteachers in the Ashanti Region who were interdicted for allegedly imposing unauthorized fees, four have been transferred by the Ghana Education Service.

The interdictions, dating back to December 2023, were prompted by accusations of charging students for various unapproved fees, such as house dues, books, calculators, admission process fees, and printing expenses for slips, files, and hymn books.

Sulemana Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional president of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), revealed in an interview that the Ghana Education Service made the decision after conducting investigations.

He stated, “They [GES] have taken the decision where four of them [the headteachers] have been asked to go to their various schools and four of them have been swapped from their former schools to different schools.”

“Headteacher of Kumasi Girls is now at Ntonsu SDA Girls and Headteacher of SDA Girls is at Nkawie. Headteacher of Nkawie SDA Girls has been moved to Nkroful Agric.”

He also said that in a direct swap, the Headteacher of Manso Adubia SHS will move to Tweapease Senior High School, while the Headteacher of Tweapease Senior High School will move to Manso Adubia SHS.

Additionally, the Headteacher of KSTS will move to Bosome Freho Senior High School, replacing the retiring headteacher.

CHASS had previously criticized the handling of some headteachers by the Ghana Education Service.

Despite widespread news coverage of their indictment, many headteachers in the Ashanti region had not received official letters regarding their situation.
