The National Petroleum Authority, NPA recently announced the roll-out of the Cylinder Recirculation Model, CRM, in September 2023.

The CRM would run side by side with the current distribution module. This is to improve access to LPG, improve distribution safety, and increase the adoption of LPG.

Beach News spoke to a cross-section of Ghanaians in the Sekond- Takoradi Metropolis who lauded the idea of the National Petroleum Authority.

They are of the view that the roll-out of the model would help in reducing the financial burden on households who uses LPG, as well as reduce fire outbreaks.

Maame Esi, a student of TTU said, ” I believe the cylinder recirculation will help reduce the expenses of purchasing a new cylinder when coming to school. This will help to reduce the financial burden on parents having to buy new cylinders.”

” I think the policy is a good idea. This can help reduce fire outbreaks at houses. I’m happy they are initiating such things.”

Another student said, “The risk of carrying empty cylinders to refill will be a thing of the past if the policy begins.”

According to the NPA, four bottling plants are ready for takeoff hoping to increase capacity by 50 percent by 2030.

The NPA added that the recirculation programme will be implemented alongside the current system until a complete phase-out.

“All industry players have been engaged, their ideas have been taken on board and the framework has been designed with their input and are ready to offer their support to ensure the success of the project”, says Perry Okudzeto, the Deputy CEO at NPA.

“So far, since 2017, the first step had been to construct bottling plants that will be the main pivot around which the policy will operate since under the new policy, cylinders are going to be filled with LPG and sent to exchange points for distribution”, he added.

Meanwhile, the Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) Marketers Association has welcomed the planned implementation of the cylinder recirculation policy.
