American actor Johnny Wactor, aged 37, was fatally shot in Los Angeles while confronting thieves attempting to steal a part from his car.

Wactor, known for his role in the US soap opera *General Hospital*, died early on Saturday after interrupting three men who were trying to remove the catalytic converter from his parked vehicle.

His agent, David Shaul, expressed deep sorrow to Variety, describing Wactor as an “outstanding human being” who “would literally give you the shirt off his back.”

Shaul added, “After over a decade together, he will leave a hole in our hearts forever.”

Wactor’s mother, Scarlett, told NBC4 that her son, returning to his car after work, did not initially suspect danger when he saw a man tampering with it, thinking it was being towed.

When he approached to inquire, he was immediately shot. She described the incident as “senseless,” noting that the suspect fled with two other men.

Catalytic converters are frequently targeted by thieves for the precious metals they contain, which can be sold for significant amounts.

The incident occurred at the corner of West Pico Boulevard and South Hope Street in downtown LA, and no arrests have been made.

Producers at *General Hospital* paid tribute to Wactor, calling him “truly one of a kind and a pleasure to work with each and every day.”

In addition to his two-year stint on the show, the South Carolina-born actor starred in the 2013 NBC series *Siberia* and appeared in two episodes of HBO’s Westworld.
