“Game of Thrones” actor Ian Gelder dies aged 74

British actor Ian Gelder, famous for portraying Kevan Lannister in “Game of Thrones,” has died at 74, as announced by his husband and fellow actor Ben Daniels.

Daniels shared the news on Instagram, expressing deep sadness over the loss of his “darling husband and life partner.”

Gelder had been battling bile duct cancer since December, and Daniels had devoted himself to caring for him.

Daniels mentioned the unexpected speed of Gelder’s passing, highlighting Gelder’s kindness, generosity, and love as a human being and a partner of 30 years.

Gelder’s career spanned several decades, featuring roles in TV series like “Torchwood,” “His Dark Materials,” and “Doctor Who.”

However, his portrayal of Kevan Lannister in “Game of Thrones” brought him significant recognition.

He played the role of Lord Tywin Lannister’s trusted adviser and younger brother for four seasons of the show’s eight-season run.

Aside from his TV work, Gelder was a respected stage actor, having performed in productions such as “The Merchant of Venice” and “Richard III” at the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).

Following Gelder’s passing, tributes poured in from the entertainment industry. Richard E Grant expressed condolences to Daniels, acknowledging the loss of “your beloved Ian.”

The RSC remembered Gelder as one of the kindest and gentlest individuals in the business, while “Doctor Who” showrunner Russell T.

Davies reflected on Gelder’s delightful and humorous nature as an actor.
