The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western Region commenced a three-day vetting process on January 3, 2023, kicking off with Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency, followed by Ahanta West and Essikado-Ketan, where the incumbent MPs are not seeking re-election.

George Mireku Duker, the two-term MP for Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, expressed optimism about his chances for a third term, attributing his confidence to the increased allure of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency under his leadership.

He highlighted, “…this is a competition, and people will want to join. Especially when I have made it more attractive, dependable with my hard work, my contenders are eager to contest in our constituency. I’m sure the contest on January 27 will make us see who is who.”

The Ahanta West MCE, John Agyare, vying for the Ahanta West seat, emphasized his unique capability to safeguard the constituency and the party’s interests in the upcoming December 2024 elections.

“The reason why I’m contesting is just one thing – we have the Ahanta West seat to protect, and I’m the only one who has the urge and can protect the seat from going to our opponents.”

Charles Cromwell Onuawonto Bissue, former NPP Regional Secretary of the Essikado-Ketan Constituency, shared his vision for the area after his vetting. He told Beach FM, “my vision is documented, and it is a contract between myself and the people of Essikado-Ketan. I’m waiting on the vetting committee to give me clearance so I can go ahead with my campaign to preach to our delegates my vision for Essikado-Ketan.”

In total, ten aspirants from Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Ahanta West, and Essikado-Ketan constituencies underwent vetting. In Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku-Duker (2-term MP/Deputy Minister), Gordon Opoku Boateng (Former 2nd Vice Chairman) and Francis Elliason sat before the committee.

In Ahanta West, John Agyare (Ahanta West MCE), Francis Eric Pobee (NPP Regional Patron), Benedict Appau (2nd Vice Chariman) and John Kwesi Yankey also took turns before the committee.

And finally in Esikado-Ketan, Charles Cromwell Onuawonto Bissue (Former NPP Regional Secretary), Anna Hormaa Akaise Meiza (NPP Regional Treasurer/Deputy DG, NLA), and Giovani Nana Osei Tutu Agyemang (Former Youth Organiser) were vetted.

The process in the Western Region continues on Thursday, January 4, 2023, featuring Kwesimintsim, Effia, Takoradi, and Sekondi constituencies. Nine individuals, including the Western Regional Minister, are scheduled to appear before the vetting committee at 10 am.
