Mali’s ruling junta delays resuming Air France flights

 France

Mali’s ruling junta is currently reviewing Air France‘s request to resume flights to the country, as the relations between Mali and France has deteriorated following the 2020 military coup, with Mali aligning itself more closely with Russia.

In the aftermath of the military coup in neighboring Niger, France’s national airline ceased operations to Mali in August.

Air France had initially announced its intention to resume flights to Mali from the upcoming Friday, citing an agreement with the transitional authorities.

However, the Malian transport ministry contradicted this announcement, stating that they were still in the process of evaluating Air France’s request to resume flights to the country, and the suspension of flights remained in effect.

Mali further accused the airline of unilaterally suspending flights earlier, without proper prior notification to the authorities and customers.

Consequently, Air France has since said it is postponing flights to and from Mali until further notice.
