LET’S TALK MENTAL HEALTH: ANXIETY DISORDERS

MENTAL HEALTH

Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. It is a normal response to stress and can be helpful in preparing for a challenging situation. However, when anxiety becomes persistent or excessive, it can interfere with daily life and become a mental health disorder.

The feelings of anxiety and panic interfere with daily activities, are difficult to control, are out of proportion to the actual danger and can last a long time.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health disorders and can manifest in various forms, such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, specific phobias, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

MENTAL HEALTH

Symptoms of anxiety can include restlessness, irritability, difficulty concentrating, having a sense of impending doom, sweating, feeling tired, muscle tension, and sleep disturbances. Symptoms may start during childhood or the teen years and continue into adulthood.

There are several treatments available for anxiety, including medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is often used to treat anxiety disorders, and it involves changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to anxiety.

MENTAL HEALTH

Lifestyle changes such as exercise, relaxation techniques, and a healthy diet can also be helpful in managing anxiety.
It is important to seek professional help if anxiety is interfering with daily life, as untreated anxiety can lead to other mental health issues such as depression and substance abuse.

With proper treatment and support, people with anxiety can learn to manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.
