#SekondiTakoradiDeservesBetter protesters threaten further protests over Regional Minister’s absence to receive petition

Protesters from the #SekondiTakoradiDeservesBetter demonstration have expressed their intention to stage another demonstration.

Protesters from the #SekondiTakoradiDeservesBetter demonstration have expressed their intention to stage another demonstration in the coming weeks.

Their decision stems from their perceived lack of recognition and respect from the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, who deputed someone to receive their petition on his behalf at the Western Regional Coordinating Council.

The campaign, which began in the morning of October 27, 2023, aimed to raise awareness about the neglect of key development issues within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

Demonstrators marched through the city’s main streets to the Regional Coordinating Council, where they expected to meet the Regional Minister. However, to their disappointment, the Regional Minister was not present to receive them. This led to frustrations among the protesters, with one participant expressing that, “the Regional Minister was not ready to receive us.”

Speaking to Beach FM, some of the protesters made it clear that they would not give up on their mission to compel the government to address their concerns. They have vowed to organize a series of demonstrations across the city until their demands are met.

Convenor for the #SekondiTakoradiDeservesBetter demonstration, Samuel Appiah Gyimah (Bishop), expressed his disappointment in the absence of the Regional Minister. He voiced his concerns over the neglect of various infrastructure projects, including the state of the Essipong Stadium, the deteriorating Center for National Culture, non-functioning traffic lights, and poor road conditions, among others.

“That is why we are seeking answers from our leaders. We need to know why they are not being responsive to these issues”, Bishop emphasized.

The protesters are determined to continue their efforts until they see progress in addressing the developmental needs of the community.
