Residents of Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region have taken to the streets to protest against the poor state of their roads, underdevelopment, and bad governance.

The demonstration, dubbed ‘Sekondi-Takoradi Deserves Better,’ reflects their discontent with the poor condition of local roads, underdevelopment, and what they perceive as inadequate governance in the region.

During the protest, many participants were attired in black and red clothing and held placards bearing messages like “Takoradi Deserves Better,” “We Are Tired of Poor Leadership,” and “Fix Our Roads,” among others.

The Convener of the Concerned Youth of Sekondi-Takoradi, Samuel Gyimah, explained that their decision to stage the protest stems from a prolonged sense of neglect in Sekondi-Takoradi.

He stated, “We are demonstrating because of the bad state of roads we have over here, hospitals, traffic lights are not working, streetlights are not working and the town is totally dark in the evening and nothing works over here.

Gyimah further emphasized their intention to seek answers from their leaders regarding their commitment to their rights and effective governance.

An aggrieved resident, Philip Fiifi Buckman, emphasized that despite the Western Region, particularly Sekondi-Takoradi, contributing significantly to the country’s development, their roads are in poor condition, unemployment is a pressing issue, and essential services are not functioning properly.

As a result, the residents are calling for better governance and development in their region.
