Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Faces Inadequate Dialysis Equipments

The Public Relations Officer at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Francis Baidoo, says the dialysis unit is faced with inadequate equipment to care for patients with renal-related diseases.

In an interview on Western Echo on Beach FM, Mr. Baidoo stated that the unit only manages a few dialysis equipments to cater to people with chronic kidney diseases who visit the facility.

He mentioned that due to the sophisticated nature of the dialysis equipment, fixing it requires the services of experts, which costs a lot of money.

” Setting up a dialysis unit is not easy, you’ll have an arrangement with a private person who owns a dialysis machine, and enter into a Memorandum of Understanding.

As it stands now we don’t have the full complement of what we envisage, and we hope that we will be in a capacity to render dialysis service for as many patients who need it.

Unfortunately, we don’t have enough machines to run, and also sometimes to get the input that is used for dialysis you need to get from places like Accra.

Dialysis machines are also very complex, and their repair is also a different ball game altogether,”

Mr. Baidoo hopes that the redevelopment of the facility will provide the government with enough dialysis equipment.

He mentioned that “health care in general is a very expensive venture. If you want the services to your experience, you should be willing to pay for them.

I believe that with the redevelopment in Effia Nkwanta, meaning after the infrastructure is set up we will be in a position to render dialysis services to the best capacity. equipment to use.”
