The Current State Of River Ankobra After The Operation Of Galamsey Task Force Within Two Months

The river Ankobra has received a massive transformation after the operation of galamasey task force was launched in order to fight illegal mining.

The River Ankobra, one of the Ghana’s biggest waterbodies got worse as illegal mininng activities have pulluted same.

River Ankobra is located at the Wassa Jukwaa Heman in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality in the Western Region.

Yesterday, Thursday, February 16, 2023, George Mireku Duker Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency led a team to inspect the current state of River Ankobra, which was one of the major river bodies polluted as a result of illegal mining activities.

According to the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency George Mireku Duker , the turbity level of River Ankobra is very much better as compared to some few months ago.

He then commend all stakeholders in the Region for ensuring this milestone which needs to be sustained.

TOUR OF RIVER ANKOBRA

On Thursday, February 16, 2023, I led a team to inspect the current state of River Ankobra, which was one of the major river bodies polluted as a result of illegal mining activities.
I am highly elated to state that, the turbity level of River Ankobra is very much better as compared to some few months ago. I commend all stakeholders in the Region for ensuring this milestone which needs to be sustained.
Interventions ranging from establishment of community mining schemes, revitalizing District Mining Committees, Deployment of Minerals Cadastral System and most importantly, the training and deployment of River Wardens have contributed significantly towards achieving this success.
I once again call on all relevant stakeholders, to keep up all efforts to ensure that, all our river bodies are clean and free from activities of illegal mining.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources will continue all efforts to ensure a sustained victory against illegal mining in and along our water bodies.
I was accompanied on the trip by Hon. Kwesi Bonzo, Ellembelle DCE, Hon. Dorcas Amoah, Nzema-East MCE, Mr. Peter Awuah, Technical Director of Mines and other officials.
