NPP: Kennedy Agyapong arrives at party headquarters to meet elections committee

Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant, has arrived at the NPP headquarters to meet with the elections committee.

Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant, has arrived at the New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP), headquarters to meet with the elections committee.

Sources claim that the purpose of the meeting is to give him and the other presidential contenders a chance to discuss issues with how the special delegates conference was handled.

With a total of 629 votes, or 68.15% of the vote, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Special Delegates’ Conference.

Former trade minister Alan Kyerematen finished third with 95 votes, or 10.29%, followed by Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong in second place with 132 votes, or 14.30%.

In connection with allegations made against President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the Special Delegates Conference on Saturday, Mr. Agyapong is also scheduled to appear before the disciplinary committee.

The two leaders are threatened in a widely shared video by Mr. Agyapong, who is also the MP for Assin Central, over alleged attacks on his operatives.

Mr. Agyapong will be called before the Disciplinary Committee to justify his threats, according to a statement released on Sunday and signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s campaign team emphasised on Monday that the remark made during Saturday’s special delegates conference regarding a “showdown” with President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was not a threat.

Agyapong’s campaign manager, Kwame Owusu, claimed during a news conference that the term “showdown” was just intended to suggest that Agyapong will triumph in the elections on November 4 regardless of any alleged intimidation.
