Assin North Elections: Charles Opoku Elected As Parliamentary Candidate For NPP

The Assin North by-election is slated for June 27, 2023, and thus Charles Opoku has been chosen by the ruling New Patriotic Party to run as its Parliamentary Candidate.

The Assin North seat was declared vacant as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision on James Gyakye Quayson and its directive to Parliament to remove his name from its records.

In accordance with the constitution, the Electoral Commission is required to hold a by-election to choose a representative for the constituency in Parliament.

Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP’s Director of Communications, said after the polls that the residents of Assin North needed an honest representative in Parliament.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims Charles Opoku does not qualify to contest in the constituency since he is not a registered voter in the Assin North constituency.

Charles Opoku won the primary with 397 votes out of the total valid votes of 536.
