Public Transport Operators Expected To Announce A Reduction In Fares Next Week

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union, GPRTU says, the percentage reduction in transport fares will be determined by the margin of decline in prices of petroleum products for the second pricing window effective today, December 16.

Commuters of commercial transport have called for a reduction in transport fares following the reduction in fuel prices.

However, in a second meeting between the transport Ministry and Transport Operators could not reach a consensus on the percentage reduction in the fares.

General Secretary for the GPRTU, Godfred Abulbire says, they are hopeful of concluding on Monday.

“Once the fuel prices have started coming down , we will reduce. We will arrive at a margin that will reduce the general public will be satisfied and operators too will be satisfied. We will conclude on Monday and announce the actual margin that we are going to reduce the fares,” he said.

Meanwhile, some commuters in the Metropolis have added their voices to the reduction of transport fares saying it will improve their livelihoods.

Hassan Tampuli, Deputy Transport Minister says, government is committed to reaching a favorable consensus with the transport operators to reduce the burden on the citizenry.
