Ghana Wildlife Division Announces Close Season On Hunting

The Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission has imposed a 4 month ban on hunting, capturing and destroying wild animals in the country’s forest.

This ban is known as the closed season.

The annual ban on hunting for all wild animals except the grass cutter can be hunted under license.

The ban commences today August, 1,2022 and ends on December 1, 2022.

This activity is to offer respite for the wild animals to breed and wean their young ones.

The Commission said that Ghana’s wildlife is over-hunted and has reached a point where the dwindling number of animals threatens food security in rural and urban communities.

According to the Commission, the ban is to ensure the survival of the species and the integrity of the country as a signatory to international conventions.

The general public is cautioned not to patronise game dead or alive except for grass cutters so that hunters would find it uneconomical to hunt the animals.
