ECG Mobile App users urged to update the app for new security features

To continuously improve its online services, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has upgraded its Mobile App with a new security feature for MTN users across the country.

The ECG recently introduced new smart meters with Mobile Application (ECG Mobile App) which could be used to make payment on all postpaid metered accounts and selected smart prepayment meters in the system.

The Power App could be used for other services such as reporting faults, reporting power outages, and making general inquiries aside about the payment of bills and purchasing power.

Mr Benjamin Quarcoo, Western Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the ECG explained that MTN MoMo users could now verify their phone numbers by using the “Register Phone Number” option under the “User Settings” Menu.

He divulged that starting July 15, 2021, only a verified MTN MoMo phone number can be used for payment and urged users to update their App to receive the security update.

However, he indicated that the update does not apply to other network users apart from users on the MTN network.

Mr Quarcoo said in the wake of the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the new app would reduce the huge queues at the various offices to access their services and asked customers in the region to use the app to buy power and pay bills.

He expressed the hope that the new smart meters would reduce the huge queues at the various offices and clamp down on customers who tempered with the meters and engage in all forms of illegality on the meters since they could monitor and trace the meters from their offices.
