Prison Officers plead for immediate health support for inmates

 

The Chief Officer Of the Kumasi Central Prisons who doubles as the leader of the 96th Recruit Course at the Prisons Officers Training School, Mr Michael Ademan has stated that Prison Camps in Kumasi being the Kumasi Central Prisons, Amanfrom Prisons, Manhyia Prisons Camp and the rest seriously needs support from the health ministry to deal with both minor and major health conditions inmates.
Chief officers, Ademan stated that managing common health conditions such as malaria, skin disorders, respiratory tract infections of inmates in the various prison camps in the country is one big challenge for prison officers to handle and that, the government through the ministry of health would have to step in immediately before the worse happen.
According to Mr. Ademan, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) isn’t helping at all since in most cases inmate are asked to pay for certain services the hospital render to them. This he said never used to be the situation with the NHIS some years passed.
Mr. Michael Ademan was speaking to beachfmonline.com when the 96th recruit group from the Prisons Officers Training School donated food items worth Ghc1,500 to the inmates at the Amanfrom Prisons in Kumasi as part of their 25th Anniversary celebrations.
He said the gesture is towards the inmates is to let them feel at home with them as officers and help the inmates develop a mind-set that will enable them re-integrate fully into society after serving their term at the corrections centres.
Meanwhile, the Senior Officer of Amanfrom Prisons Camp, Mr. Bismark Osei who accepted the items thanked the officers for such a kind gesture exhibited to the inmates.
He equally used the occasion to tell the inmates how much the officers who supervise their day to day affairs love them and are ready to help the reform as far as they remain in their custody.
