Effia Kwesimintsim Health Services Reports Decline in Maternal Mortality

The Effia Kwesimintim Municipal Health Director, Joyce Bagyina, has foretold the reduction in maternal mortality in the municipality.

According to her, the number of maternal deaths in 2023 has decreased compared to 2022.

She mentioned this during a performance review in Health Services at Effia Kwesimintim for the previous year on the good works and the shortfalls in their services.

“We have tried to reduce maternal death, said the health director.

Explaining maternal death, she said, “Maternal death is when someone is pregnant, in labour, has delivered within that month or 6 weeks after delivery, and has lost her life.”.

“In 2022, six women died in our municipality, and we have tried a lot of activities. We went to radio stations to educate people and also put measures in place at our facilities. This year, at least we have deduced to three.

We don’t want to lose any woman, so if you are pregnant, you have to come to the hospital within the first three months to be examined to know if there will be a problem during your pregnancy, then we pick up and take care, see the solution to it, and protect you to deliver safely”.

Madam Bagyina also emphasized the use of a treated mosquito net and mosquito repellent to protect ourselves from mosquito bites.

“We have supplied a lot of mosquito nets to sleep under. Mosquitoes breed more during the rainy season, and at times like that, we should all sleep under a treated mosquito net or use mosquito repellent,” she stated.
