Australia

Liam Trimmer, aged 29, passed away after a fall during his engagement celebration at his residence in Western Australia (WA) on Sunday.

The accident resulted in a severed carotid artery in his neck, and despite efforts to resuscitate him, he died before paramedics arrived.

Described as an “extraordinary officer” by his colleagues, Trimmer, a senior constable, was deeply involved in serving his community.

WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch expressed grief, highlighting Trimmer’s promising future and the profound impact of his loss on the police force.

The circumstances of the fall were not disclosed, with authorities indicating that an investigation by a coroner would follow.

Carotid arteries, crucial for supplying blood to the brain, were affected in the incident.

Trimmer migrated from the UK to Australia in 2013 to pursue a career in law enforcement.

Following his graduation from the police academy in 2017, he served in various capacities, including gang crime and tactical response units in Kalgoorlie, located about 600km (370 miles) east of Perth.

Regarded as a model figure within the force, Trimmer’s advocacy for young UK citizens to join WA’s police ranks was noted, with his appearance on the BBC series Wanted Down Under drawing attention to his experiences as a migrant.

The state’s police union also expressed condolences over his untimely passing.
