Government Secures $1 Million Insurance Premium to Protect Smallholder Farmers from Drought

The government has secured a $1 million insurance premium as part of a comprehensive strategy to bolster resilience against future droughts.

This premium is linked to a $5 million payout policy designed to support smallholder farmers.

The initiative was revealed by Minister of Finance Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam during the monthly media briefing in Accra.

He emphasized that the policy is a crucial component of the government’s financial strategy to mitigate food insecurity and bolster relief efforts in the event of future dry spells.

This measure follows a recent dry spell that affected eight regions across the country, heightening concerns about a potential food shortage and its economic repercussions.

Dr. Amin Adam also unveiled a $5 million endowment fund to support the launch of the digital hub, scheduled for completion by the end of November.

He expressed strong confidence that this initiative will be crucial in ensuring a prosperous future for the nation’s youth in the digital economy.

The programme was attended by several notable figures, including the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Bryan Acheampong (MP), Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, Deputy Minister for Information, Hon. Sylvester Tetteh (MP), Chief Director Ms. Eva Mends, and other directors and staff from the Ministry of Finance.
