NDC criticizes Akufo-Addo for neglecting Ekumfi constituency’s development

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) strongly criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for asserting that he excluded the Ekumfi constituency from receiving national development resources due to their rejection of the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate in the area.

The NDC argued that the president’s remarks were unbecoming of his office and revealed a ‘vindictive’ nature.

President Akufo-Addo disclosed this information while conversing with traditional leaders from Ekumfi during their visit to the Jubilee House.

He expressed disappointment over the constituency’s decision to vote out Francis Ato Cudjoe, whom he had appointed as Deputy Minister during the 2020 polls, leading him to withhold development initiatives.

In response to these statements, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy Secretary of the NDC, emphasized during an interview that the President’s comments were inappropriate, especially when addressing the family of a late former president.

“It seems that if the president was speaking to somebody like me, it would have been acceptable, but the president being the president of the Republic of Ghana was speaking to the family, direct family members of a late former president [John Evans Atta Mills]. So, to have made such comments, for us, is unpresidential,” stated Mr. Gbande.

He added, “It just reflects the nature of the president we have, who is so vindictive and believes that he prioritizes politics over development. That is why his government is failing.”
