The members of the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana at the KNUST chapter have adhered to their leadership’s decision to engage in a nationwide strike.
The striking individuals are urging the government to address their concerns, which include issues related to the payment of their tier two pension and overtime allowance.
During Citi News’ visit to the KNUST campus on Thursday, the services that the members withdrew encompassed security, health, and administrative functions, among others.
In an effort to raise awareness about their strike, the members conducted a procession on major campus streets, chanting war songs. They also visited various offices, instructing all members to strictly adhere to the directive to strike.
Kwadwo Bediako-Baryeh, the Secretary of the Group, emphasized to Citi News that their members are determined to sustain the strike until all their concerns are satisfactorily addressed.
As a consequence of the strike, individuals seeking services from the striking members experienced frustration. Simultaneously, the Senior Staff Association of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) is also complying with the directive to strike.
The group at UCC cites reasons such as the non-payment of overtime allowances by the University of Cape Coast and the failure to disburse tier 2 allowances to fund managers as grounds for their indefinite strike.
Sandy Kumi-Sinatra, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of the University of Cape Coast, urged members to withhold their services until management addresses their grievances.
