Employees at OpenAI are urging the company’s board to step down following the abrupt removal of former CEO Sam Altman.

Their letter challenges the board’s competence, accusing it of undermining the company’s efforts and demands Altman’s reinstatement.

Despite this, Altman, now employed at Microsoft, emphasizes the importance of OpenAI’s success and commits to ensuring its continuation alongside Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella.

Altman and Nadella prioritize OpenAI’s prosperity, assuring operational continuity for partners and customers through the Microsoft-OpenAI partnership.

The dismissal of Altman, a prominent figure in AI, shocked the tech community, prompting numerous senior staff to sign the letter, hinting at possible resignations if their demands aren’t met.

Microsoft, the primary investor in OpenAI, has reportedly assured jobs to all OpenAI employees interested in joining Microsoft.

Nadella expressed openness to collaborating with OpenAI or welcoming its staff to Microsoft, acknowledging the necessity for governance changes at OpenAI, signaling ongoing discussions between the companies.

Evan Morikawa, an OpenAI engagement manager, shared on social media that the majority of the company’s workforce, 743 out of 770 employees, supported the letter.

Notably, OpenAI’s chief scientist, Ilya Sutskever, a board member, admitted regret for participating in the board’s decisions and expressed a commitment to reunite the company.
