The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is actively preparing for its upcoming polls on Saturday, November 4, 2023, to select a flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

This critical vote will involve over 200,000 party delegates and is a crucial step in the party’s efforts to break the eight-year election cycle pattern.

From an initial list of 10 flagbearer hopefuls, the party has narrowed it down to four aspirants who are vying to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Some aspirants from the original list have withdrawn from the race.

The remaining four aspirants in the competition include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh.

While Dr. Bawumia is considered a frontrunner by many pollsters, they anticipate strong competition from Kennedy Agyapong. All contestants have pledged not to resign from the party in the event of defeat.

The election, which will determine the flagbearer for the NPP for the 2024 general elections, will take place in every constituency across all 16 regions of the country.

On the ballot paper, Kennedy Agyapong will appear at the top, followed by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the second position.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimo, will occupy the third and fourth positions, respectively.
