A “cowardly terrorist attack” occurred in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park, resulting in the tragic deaths of a British tourist, a South African tourist, and a Ugandan guide.

The victims were targeted by suspected members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group.

ADF is an Islamist group with links to ISIS, primarily operating in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Both Uganda and the DRC have increased their efforts to combat the ADF in recent months.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni had previously revealed that the police had thwarted an alleged ADF plot to bomb churches in the Butambala district of Uganda.

Following the national park attack, the Ugandan police announced their pursuit of the suspected terrorists, expressing condolences to the victims’ families. They also shared a photo of a burnt safari vehicle.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority confirmed the attack, emphasizing that all national parks in the country remained open.

The UK Foreign Office updated its travel advice for Uganda, cautioning that the attackers were still at large and advising those in the area to stay vigilant and follow local security authorities’ guidance.

Ugandan authorities recommended that individuals in Queen Elizabeth National Park stay put overnight.
