Minority vows to show BoG Governor “what hooligans do”

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has issued a warning to the Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, in response to his remarks following the OccupyBoG demonstration, stating that they will demonstrate actions akin to “hooligans.”

The protest took place on October 3 and was organized by the Minority Caucus, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), and its supporters to protest the nation’s economic crisis.

During the protest, demonstrators called for Dr. Addison’s resignation, accusing him of mismanagement and incompetence.

In his response to the demonstration, Dr. Addison referred to the protesters as “hooligans” and asserted that neither he nor his deputies would step down from their positions.

He expressed the view that the Minority in parliament has alternative channels for addressing their concerns, rather than resorting to street demonstrations.

Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, criticized Dr. Addison’s response as arrogant and disrespectful to them and the NDC’s leadership.

Ayariga suggested that the governor’s response reflects frustration and incompetence in managing the Central Bank.

He stated that the Minority group plans to meet with the NDC’s leadership to determine the next steps in holding Dr. Addison accountable for what they perceive as his incompetence.
