President Akufo-Addo Pays Tribute to Late Former First Lady, Theresa Kufuor

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has expressed his condolences following the passing of former first lady, Theresa Kufuor, on October 1, 2023.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 2, 2023, the President, along with First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, conveyed their heartfelt sympathy to former President John Agyekum Kufuor and their entire family.

Describing Theresa Kufuor as an invaluable and constant source of advice, encouragement, and prayers for her husband throughout their 61 years of marriage, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged her significant contribution to her husband’s political success.

He praised her political astuteness and noted her impact as a composed and articulate First Lady, known for her fluency in multiple languages, including Ewe.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted the exceptional warmth, kindness, and grace exhibited by Theresa Kufuor and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to know her.

He stated that her unwavering belief in the sovereignty of the Almighty God and her stoicism in facing life’s challenges left an indelible mark.

“She was an invaluable and constant source of advice, encouragement and prayers for him. Member of a well-known family from Odumase, in the Bono Region, sister of the renowned statesman, the late J.H Mensah, and aunt of President Kufuor’s Secretary, the brilliant diplomat, Ambassador D.K Osei, she was politically astute, and was a major contributor to her husband’s political success. She was a composed and articulate First Lady, polyglot, fluent in several languages including Ewe, who brought great dignity to the position.” the president added.

The passing of Mrs. Theresa Kufuor serves as a reminder of human mortality and the eventual reunion with the Almighty, according to President Akufo-Addo.

He wished her a peaceful resting place until the Last Day of the Resurrection when they shall meet again.

“Her warmth, kindness and grace were exceptional. She bore the vicissitudes of life with great stoicism and an unshakable belief in the sovereignty of Almighty God,” he added.
