Attorney General plans to file a request for daily court hearings in the case of NAM 1

Attorney General

Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah has revealed his intention to file an application for a daily court hearing in the case involving Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as NAM 1, the CEO of the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited.

NAM 1 faces 39 counts of fraud and money laundering charges, and this case has been ongoing for several years.

Tuah Yeboah made this announcement during an interview with journalists on Tuesday, September 19. He emphasized that a daily hearing would expedite the case and provide closure to the victims of NAM 1’s alleged fraudulent activities.

In addition, Nana Appiah Mensah has been granted bail, amounting to GH¢500 million, with four sureties, none of whom are required to justify their bail. One of the bail conditions includes the deposit of his passport at the court registry.

This decision came after NAM 1 pleaded not guilty to the 39 counts of fraud and money laundering charges, which he is facing alongside Menzgold Ghana Limited and Brew Marketing Consult.

NAM 1’s lawyer, Kwame Akuffo, requested that the court maintain the previous bail condition of GH¢5 million without justification, which was granted during a previous hearing before a nolle prosequi was entered by the state.

Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah did not oppose the bail application but urged that NAM 1 be required to deposit his passport. He also emphasized the significance of the GH¢1.68 billion involved in the case.

Considering these factors, the judge granted bail of GH¢500 million with four sureties, without the need for justification. NAM 1 has also been instructed to report to the CID headquarters every Thursday as part of his bail conditions.
