IGP scheduled to appear before the committee investigating the “leaked tape” today

Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, is anticipated to make an appearance today, Tuesday, September 12, before the committee investigating the alleged plot to remove him from his position.

Additionally, the three senior police officers, COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi, who were implicated in the leaked audio discussing the removal of the IGP, have already appeared before the committee and are expected to return with their legal representatives on the same day.

The committee’s Chairman, Atta Akyea, mentioned that there have been serious allegations made in public, but the concrete evidence supporting these allegations has not been made public.

The committee aims to uncover the evidential support for these claims while being mindful of national security concerns.

However, Franklin Cudjoe, the President of the policy think tank IMANI Africa, expressed his view that the committee’s work should have concluded when the witnesses admitted to their voices being on the tape and confirming their involvement in the discussed activities.

He questioned why the committee was allowing witnesses, particularly the police officers, to engage in storytelling, which he believed was leading to a reevaluation of the Ghana Police Service’s role and seemed unnecessary in his opinion.
