Marvel star Jonathan Majors’ assault trial begins amidst career fallout

Marvel

Marvel star Jonathan Majors is facing assault allegations from his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, as his trial commences in New York.

The charges relate to an incident in March where Ms. Jabbari alleged an attack, resulting in bruises and a broken finger.

Majors, known for roles in blockbusters like Creed III and Ant-Man, could potentially face a year in prison if convicted. He firmly denies these allegations.

The incident unfolded following Majors presenting an award at the 2023 Oscars, resulting in his arrest after a reported “domestic dispute” in a Manhattan apartment.

Ms. Jabbari, 30, was reported to have sustained minor head and neck injuries, receiving medical attention.

Ms. Jabbari’s complaint detailed alleged physical harm, including claims of being slapped and having Majors place his hand on her neck, causing significant pain.

In response, Majors filed a misdemeanor assault counter-complaint against Ms. Jabbari in June, citing her alleged attack against him.

However, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office decided against pursuing prosecution for Ms. Jabbari.

Despite attempts to dismiss the case, a New York judge scheduled the trial, which has faced multiple reschedulings.

Majors’ lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, staunchly defends his innocence, citing video evidence and witness accounts supporting Majors as the victim.

Chaudhry also highlights that Ms. Jabbari retracted her allegations.

The allegations have impacted Majors’ career, leading to his management and PR firm severing ties.

Moreover, Marvel faced disruptions due to Majors’ involvement as Kang the Conqueror, impacting planned spinoffs and delaying Avengers films.

Additionally, the US army paused recruitment ads featuring Majors, citing prudence pending investigation.

Majors gained recognition through roles in films like The Last Black Man in San Francisco and Netflix’s The Harder They Fall, along with portraying Michael B Jordan’s rival in Creed III.
