OpenAI launches a business version of ChatGPT

As an AI arms race continues to ramp up in corporate America, OpenAI has announced the release of a version of its popular ChatGPT tool designed specifically for businesses.

The new service, called “ChatGPT Enterprise,” was unveiled by OpenAI in a blog post for the company, and it was announced that it will be available for purchase to business clients as of Monday.

For companies looking to join the generative AI revolution, the new offering promises to deliver “enterprise-grade security and privacy” along with “the most powerful version of ChatGPT yet”.

“We believe AI can assist and elevate every aspect of our working lives and make teams more creative and productive,” the blog post said. “Today marks another step towards an AI assistant for work that helps with any task, is customized for your organization, and that protects your company data.”

Fintech startup Block, cosmetics giant Estee Lauder Companies, and professional services company PwC are just a few of the early clients of ChatGPT Enterprise.

According to OpenAI’s analysis of accounts connected to corporate email domains, over 80% of Fortune 500 companies’ employees have already started using ChatGPT since it went public late last year.

A number of well-known businesses, including JPMorgan Chase, had temporary restrictions in place on using ChatGPT at work before the introduction of ChatGPT Enterprise.

However, ChatGPT Enterprise addresses one of the main problems that prompted the workplace crackdowns: worries about privacy and security. Previously, some business executives had expressed concerns about employees entering confidential information into ChatGPT and having that information possibly leak elsewhere as a result of the tool’s output.

However, according to the announcement blog post for ChatGPT Enterprise from OpenAI, it does “not train on your business data or conversations and our models don’t learn from your usage.”

OpenAI asked prospective business clients to get in touch with its sales team rather than making the pricing ranges for ChatGPT Enterprise publicly available.

“We look forward to sharing an even more detailed roadmap with prospective customers and continuing to evolve ChatGPT Enterprise based on your feedback,” the company said. “We’re onboarding as many enterprises as we can over the next few weeks.”
