Ahiagbah indicates that it’s puzzling that Mahama continues to mention the scandalous Saglemi project

Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pointed out that the former president and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, is able to discuss the abandoned Saglemi housing project with confidence due to the fact that none of the NDC members who were responsible for overseeing the project are currently serving jail time.

Ahiagbah characterized the project as both scandalous and inadequately supervised, underscoring the need to hold accountable those who were tasked with managing the development intended to provide affordable housing for Ghanaians.

During an appearance on Citi FM, Ahiagbah expressed astonishment that NDC members, especially Mr. Mahama, can openly converse about a project with such scandalous undertones as if it were a commendable achievement.

“The only reason the NDC and in particular, former president John Mahama can stand anywhere and point to Saglemi as though it is an achievement is that nobody is in jail as we speak because that project is a scandal. One that we should be angry about and charge at the NDC.”

“The whole thing is a scandal on its own because how do you go take a loan of $200 million to construct over 5000 apartments and end up constructing 1500 yet have expended the entire $200 million.”

“The contract that Parliament approved was for 5000 buildings but what we have there is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 1,500 and former president Mahama revised the contract without reference to Parliament.”

Following President Akufo-Addo’s decision to abandon the Saglemi housing project in favor of a new national housing initiative, Richard Ahiagbah commented on the situation in response to John Dramani Mahama’s criticism of President Akufo-Addo’s choice.
