Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji cut sod for sanitation project at New Takoradi

Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji has cut sod for the construction of a waste dumping site at New Takoradi within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.

The Club’s President, Edwin Kofi Amanor in an interview with Beach News on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, said his outfit’s project team came to the aid of the area because of the sanitation challenges faced by the community.

“We run a survey around few communities within the metropolis and we realized that New Takoradi has only one refuse dumb and as a result the residents liter about. We also noticed that the place they dumb their refuse pose a health threat to the community.”

“For these reasons, we believe that if we provide them a bigger bin, it can reduce infection rate, disease transmission and pollution of the sea because they are close to the sea. We believe that doing this for them will improve their waste management system”, he explained.

According to Rotarian President Amanor, the project which will cost $3,500, will provide the community a modern waste dumping site. Adding that, some organizations around New Takoradi have jumped in to support the initiative.

“This project will cost us about $3,500 and we have called on some companies around who have agreed to jump in and support. We will build them a structure where they can properly dispose off their waste. We will have a sustainable plan where will come back to check how they are taking care of the site.”

The Assemblywoman for the Mpoase electoral area, Felicia Odoom, said the sanitation project will help them. Expressing joy and gratitude to the Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji, she added that the long standing challenge of people loitering around will be curbed.

“We usually loiter around with little knowledge on the consequences. We thank God for bring Rotary Club of Takoradi-Anaji to us. We will take very good care of this project after it is completed. On behalf of the New Takoradi, I will say a very big thank you to the Rotary Club.”

The Sanitation project is expected to be completed and handed over to the community on August 13, 2023. The handing over ceremony will attract executives of the Rotary Club including the District Governor, amongst others.
