Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma of Italy and Paris St. Germain, as well as his partner, were attacked and robbed at their Paris home.

According to police sources, the couple was targeted by several individuals and tied up at their apartment in the capital’s eighth district.

Then, it is claimed, they fled to a nearby hotel.

The hotel staff set off the alarm, and the couple was taken to the hospital.

“An investigation has been opened on charges of armed robbery in an organized gang and aggravated violence following the events that took place overnight at Mr Donnarumma’s place,” a spokesperson for Paris prosecutor’s office told the media.

Unverified reports claim that the attackers stole jewelry, watches, and expensive leather goods worth up to €500,000 (£430,000).

According to sources speaking to Agence France Presse, the footballer suffered only minor injuries while his partner, model Alessia Elefante, was unharmed.

The prosecutor’s office said an investigation has been launched by France’s specialized BRB police unit, which targets armed robberies and burglaries.

24-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma, who moved to Paris two years ago, was scheduled to join the Paris St. Germain squad later on Friday ahead of the team’s first pre-season friendly match against Le Havre and a tour to Japan and South Korea.

Although gangs have targeted other PSG footballers before, most of those attacks happened when the victim was nott at home.

Two men received prison sentences in January this year for robbing Marquinhos of Brazil in Yvelines, west of Paris, in March of 2021.

The incident happened while Marquinhos was playing at the time, but his father and two teenage daughters were in the house.

The father was hit in the face and ribs but was otherwise unhurt.

On the same day, a burglary occurred at the home of Marquinhos’ teammate Angel Di Maria.
