Irate NPP supporters vandalize party office in Sagnarigu

On Friday, July 21, 2023, a some irate members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region’s Sagnarigu constituency vandalized the local party office.

The young people claimed that the constituency executives prevented them from collecting nomination forms for a candidate named Dr. Wahab Alhassan because they wanted Madam Felicia Tettey, who run for office in 2020, to be the only candidate.

Because of this, some young people became enraged and vandalized the party office in Sagnarigu, threatening to vote against Madam Felicia if she were to be elected without opposition.

One of the irate supporters, Abdallah Murjana, revealed that mistakes and issues from the 2020 elections were not addressed and are now being made again.

“There were a lot of problems during the last election, and we raised concerns, but the party did not mind us. The exact problem in the constituency right now is that the party leadership wants Madam Felicia Tetteh to go unopposed without consultation.”

“We went to the party’s office this morning to pick up nomination forms, and it was locked. We called them, and they said they were coming, and we waited there for two hours, but they never came. We called Sheikh Abdul Kareem, and he told us to go and come tomorrow and this is not the NPP party that we used to know.”

In order for peace to prevail, she urged the party’s leadership to be open and to create an equal playing field for all members who wish to run in the constituency’s primaries.

“It is Dr. Wahab’s right to pick up a form, and it is our right to support whoever we want to support and so for peace to reign, they should allow anyone that wants to contest to pick up nomination forms.”
