Talented Ghanaian singer, Maya Blu has disclosed that she got kicked out of the MTN Hitmaker show twice before landing a record deal with Richie’s Lynxx Entertainment.
Maya Blu recently shared her journey during an interview with Nana Ama McBrown on Onua Showtime with McBrown.
According to the ‘Shoo’ singer, she had always had love for music, but initially, she dabbled in acting. However, her passion for music grew stronger over time.
“When I completed school, I was working all over but I’ve always been passionate about music, initially I was acting and I fell in love with music more,” she said.
After completing school, she decided to participate in the MTN Hitmaker competition, in a bid to showcase her talent to Ghana and the world. However, after making it to the top 12 of the MTN Hitmaker competition she was unfortunately evicted early in the round.
“So I joined MTN Hitmaker and made it to the top 12 but I was evicted early, it hurt me so much,” Maya recalled.
Undeterred by the setback, she decided to give it another try the following year.
“But I went again the next year and I was kicked out of the semi-finals. I was so devastated because I had quit my job to come to MTN hitmaker and I was wondering what to do next,” Maya said
Despite the disappointment, Maya Blu’s talent did not go unnoticed as Richie Mensah, the CEO of Lynx Entertainment, approached her after her elimination and whispered to her that she should visit his office the next day. Intrigued and hopeful, Maya Blu went to see Richie as advised.
“Richie came to me after I was evicted and whispered that I should come and see him in his office the next day. So I went to see him and we went over the agreement and I got signed onto Lynxx Entertainment,” she pointed out.
This significant turning point in her career has added her to a list of renowned Ghanaian musicians, including Kuami Eugene, KiDi, and Adina and continues to shine day in and day out.
