Buffer Stock has become a hub for corruption, must be investigated – Nortsu-Kotoe backs protesting food suppliers

Peter Notsu-Kotoe, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Education Committee, has made allegations of dishonesty against the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) in its dealings with the National Food Suppliers Association.

Notsu-Kotoe expressed sympathy for the association’s members who are currently staging a protest at NAFCO’s premises due to unpaid arrears totaling GH¢278 million. He accused NAFCO of engaging in shady dealings and called for an investigation into its activities.

According to Notsu-Kotoe, the aggrieved suppliers informed him that the Ministry of Education had already disbursed approximately 90% of the arrears to NAFCO.

However, the funds have not been released to the suppliers, raising concerns about the transparency and integrity of the process. He criticized NAFCO for withholding payment from the suppliers, emphasizing that they are human beings with families who also need to support themselves.

Notsu-Kotoe called for a public inquiry into the activities of NAFCO to address the ongoing issues.

Meanwhile, the National Food Suppliers Association has expressed a lack of trust in any negotiation process initiated by NAFCO to resolve the debt issue. The association has been protesting at NAFCO’s premises for the past 72 hours, demanding payment of the owed amount.

In response, NAFCO released a statement stating that it is organizing an emergency meeting to discuss and agree upon a payment plan. However, the food suppliers remain skeptical and are not convinced by NAFCO’s intentions.
