During an interview on Joy Prime, Kaywa, the Chief Executive Officer of Highly Spiritual Music, provided insights into the departure of artist Lasmid from his label.

Kaywa revealed that Lasmid did not have a contract with his label initially. Instead, Lasmid was assigned to him by the organizers of the MTN Hitmaker competition as part of his prize package after winning Season 8 of the music contest in 2019.

According to Kaywa, MTN provided Lasmid to him for a one-year period at a cost of GHS 40,000. This investment covered the production of two songs, two music videos, and their promotion.

After the one-year period, Lasmid’s association with the label came to an end, leaving both parties disappointed. Kaywa expressed that he and Lasmid wanted to continue working together, but some young individuals in the industry felt that Kaywa’s attention was still focused on Lasmid, despite him no longer being officially part of the label.

Kaywa recounted that he personally called Lasmid along with others to discuss their future plans. They intended to push Lasmid to achieve a hit song so that they could revisit the conversation of officially signing him to the label without causing any problems.

However, their plans took several years to materialize, and it was only after Lasmid’s fourth song, “Friday Night,” became a hit that they began making significant progress.

Following the success of his second hit, “Running,” Lasmid decided to part ways with Kaywa.

Kaywa emphasized that the investment made in Lasmid’s career was substantial, and they had previously discussed their next steps. However, the situation changed as Lasmid’s popularity grew and he was influenced by individuals within their circle. Despite the absence of a written contract, they had a mutual understanding sealed with evidence.

Nevertheless, external influences and Lasmid’s changing circumstances ultimately affected their professional relationship.

Kaywa concluded by mentioning that Lasmid took his time to review the contract and even raised a few points, but he had always had Lasmid’s best interests at heart, as he deeply cared for his career.
