Renowned actress Joke Silva has recently discussed her husband Olu Jacobs’ battle with dementia. Olu Jacobs, a popular Nollywood actor, has been dealing with the condition since 2021.

During an interview with media personality Nancy Isime, Joke Silva shared that the diagnosis has presented challenges for both of them, but she remains devoted to supporting her husband throughout his illness. She expressed that at times, she feels like the person she married is no longer fully present.

“It hasn’t been easy,” she acknowledged. “It’s almost as if the person you married 80 percent of the time is no longer there.”

Dementia is a chronic brain disorder characterized by a decline in memory, thinking abilities, and behavior. It is a progressive disease that worsens over time. While there is no cure for dementia, there are treatments available to help manage its symptoms.

Despite the difficulties they face, Joke Silva affirmed her love for her husband and her determination to stand by his side. She described Olu Jacobs as an incredible father to their children, an amazing husband, and her best friend with whom she could share anything.

In the early stages of Olu Jacobs’ ailment, they were uncertain about his behavior until his condition deteriorated. Joke Silva recalled shedding tears of frustration and eventually reached a point of acceptance.

She also shared that caring for her husband now feels like taking care of her father, as she loves Jacobs in a different way. The man she knew as her husband is no longer fully present, but her love for him remains.

The Nollywood couple, known for their long-lasting marriage, is highly respected in the film industry. Joke Silva revealed that they have been married for 37 years and have known each other for 42 years. They dated for five years before tying the knot and have two children together.
