Ghana’s Tree Crop Production Will Be Regulated And Expanded By MoFA

Dr Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), has stated that the MoFA will take the necessary leadership to alter the trajectory and develop tree crop production in a sustainable manner with the ultimate goal of institutionalizing a highly developed, diversified tree crop industry in Ghana.

In a meeting with Dr Ashwini Rekha Sabastian, a senior agricultural economist with the World Bank Group, the minister made this statement.

Dr Bryan Acheampong acknowledged and appreciated the special support given by the World Bank Group towards developing agriculture over the years, particularly food systems resilience projects, the cocoa sector, and the technical assistance offered to the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) for the development of a five-year strategy. Dr Bryan Acheampong was briefed on the transformational effects of the World Bank on Ghana’s agriculture sector during the meeting.

The minister also urged the group to give MoFA free rein to create projects and programs that will close the sector’s deficiencies, given its technical proficiency and knowledge.
