Ghana Needs More Renewable And Sustainable Energy – MP for Pru East

A Former Minister of Power and current Member of Parliament for Pru East, Dr Kwabena Donkor has said Ghana has made gains in the last decade with the oil and gas sector.

Speaking at the 9th Oil and Gas Public Lecture Series at the University of Cape Coast, he called for more renewable and sustainable energy so the country can have its power through thermal and other sources.

Mr Kwabena Donkor entreated the government and stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to ensure that policies reflect the economic interest of the people especially by upscaling renewable resources.

He said a better energy transition must first see an increase in threshold by 120 cubic standards of natural gas in the placement of large crude oil, electricity generation and thermal plants.

Meanwhile the Director of the Institute of Oil and Gas at the University of Cape Coast, Professor Simon Mariwah added that improvement in funding can cover more students offering oil and gas courses.

He said, ” This is where people specialize and the funding is incorporated into the training of people by building capacity and you can only build the capacity for people. And most of the people who need the capacity cannot afford it, and you can only do so by providing a scholarship.”
