DBG Taking Steps To Address Food Security Related Issues

As part of initiatives to increase food security and lessen the burden of food imports on the cedi and economy as a whole, the Development Bank Ghana (DBG) has started efforts to address difficulties in some important agricultural industry subsectors.

In order to identify potential issues and develop solutions to them, the bank is now involving stakeholders. The chicken, rice, maize, and soyabean value chains are the main topics of the engagements. Around US$700 million and US$1 billion are spent on imports of rice and poultry annually, respectively.

Michael Mensah-Baah, the DBG’s deputy chief executive officer, told the media in Accra that his organization is working with policymakers, commodities producers, and other chain players to identify potential issues and problems.

Mensah-Baah noted that the issue would have many different answers, some of which may involve money, policies, and fertilizer. The strategy aims to increase food security.

Following the event in Accra, he declared that the bank would begin additional interactions with value chain participants at the regional level to comprehend the various elements of the value chain, such as production, processing, transportation, packaging, financing, and policies, and how they can cooperate to offer complete solutions.
