Justin Roiland, the co-creator and voice actor of Rick and Morty, was dropped by US streaming site Hulu on Wednesday January 26, joining TV channel Adult Swim, following allegations of domestic violence against an ex-girlfriend.

“We have ended our association with Justin Roiland,” 20th TV Animation and Hulu Originals said in a statement.

Roiland co-created and provides voices for the streaming outlet’s animated show Solar Opposites, and is also a producer and actor on its animated Koala Man. Both shows will continue without him.

The animated sci-fi sitcom Rick and Morty is produced by Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim division, which followed suit on Tuesday by announcing that it has severed ties with creator Justin Roiland.

Later on Tuesday in a Twitter post, Roiland announced his resignation from Squanch Games, a video game studio he co-founded.

In Orange County, California, Roiland, 42, was accused in January 2020 on two charges of felony domestic abuse against a previous girlfriend with whom he was residing. He is awaiting trial after pleading not guilty.

In the animated series Rick and Morty, the two title characters, a mad scientist and his grandson are voiced by Roiland. The program, which he and Dan Harmon co-created, has been renewed for a seventh season after airing for six seasons. While claiming that the show will go on without him, Adult Swim has not yet revealed who the replacement vocalists would be.
