New Base Pay For Public Sector Workers Still In Limbo

A meeting between government and leadership of the Unions on a new base pay for 2023 has again ended inconclusively.

The two sides failed to reach an agreement of percent of increase in the base pay.

While government sticks to its position of an 18 percent increment from its initial 12 percent Labour says, it has been considerate to reduce its expectation and demand from 60 percent to 58 percent.

” Organised labour has reviewed their position for the first time. They have moved downwards, from their 60 to 58 percent and that gladens our hearts. We feel that they are still up and where they are is very difficult for us to make a proposal,” He said.

Government pleaded with labour to reconsider its proposal and come further down.

Government position of 18 percent, however, remains unchanged.

For his part, the Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Bright Wereko Brobbey says, the meeting has been adjourned tentatively to Tuesday, December 20, 2022, for further consultation.

Meanwhile, organised Labour has scheduled a meeting on Monday, December 19, 2022, to strategize on the way forward.
